NOVELL MAKES ALL REASONABLE EFFORTS TO VERIFY THIS INFORMATION. HOWEVER, THE INFORMATION PROVIDED IN THIS DOCUMENT IS FOR YOUR INFORMATION ONLY. NOVELL MAKES NO EXPLICIT OR IMPLIED CLAIMS TO THE VALIDITY OF THIS INFORMATION. ----------------------------------------------------------------- INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS: Rename the existing SRVLOC.NLM in the \NOVELL\CLIENT32 folder, and copy the new file into the same folder. Then, shutdown and restart the machine. To install the registry keys included in the SRVLOCDA.REG file (not needed unless the default values are not acceptable for your use), simply execute the file from the Start/Run window. ISSUE: Fact: Novell Client v3.3 for Windows 95/98 Fact: Border Manager VPN Client Fact: See document 10055661 for information relating to the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 Symptom: Running SLPINFO /D reports that a statically configured DA is marked as NORSP Symptom: DA entry is marked "UP" within 5 minutes of creating the BM VPN connection. Cause: The Novell BorderManager VPN client does not generate an IPAddressUP event, which triggers SRVLOC.NLM to attempt to dynamically discover any statically configured DAs. Because SRVLOC.NLM has a hard-coded time defining 5 minute retries which starts when the SRVLOC.NLM process loads, there can be a delay of up to 5 minutes before SRVLOC.NLM again attempts to discover the DA. Fix: This issue is addressed in SRVLOC.NLM build dated 02Mar2001 or later for the Novell Client 3.3 for Windows 95/98. This version of SRVLOC.NLM specifies an SLP DA discovery packet be sent every 10 seconds for 5 minutes, as the default. After that time, it retries once every 5 minutes. These defaults can be overridden using two registry keys: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Novell\System Config\SRVLOC] [Dword] Values: TIME-DA-FAST-RECOVERY-INTERVAL (value stored in seconds, default 10) NUMBER-DA-FAST-RECOVERY-RETRIES (value stored in seconds, default 30) Note that these registry keys are not present, or needed, if the default is used. TIME-DA-FAST-RECOVERY-INTERVAL controls how frequently the next recovery attempt occurs (had been 5 minutes/300 seconds, in the hard-coded 3.3 client). NUMBER-DA-FAST-RECOVERY-RETRIES controls how long the recovery attempts will continue, until a reply is received. The SRVLOCDA.REG file is included for your convenience only, and is not needed if the timing defaults are acceptable for your use. To change the values, edit the values "10" and "30" in the following statements: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Novell\System Config\SRVLOC\TIME-DA-FAST-RECOVERY-INTERVAL] "0"="10" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Network\Novell\System Config\SRVLOC\NUMBER-DA-FAST-RECOVERY-RETRIES] "0"="30" Self-Extracting File Name: 260268.EXE Files Included Size Date Time ..\ 260268.TXT (This file) SRVLOC.NLM 88058 3-2-2001 2:29:36 pm SRVLOCDA.REG 277 3-2-2001 3:42:48 pm ----------------------------------------------------------------- Any trademarks referenced in this document are the property of their respective owners.
